Personalized Dosimetry in MRI

Background
Safe MRI scanning is currently based on statistical models of the energy absorbed by the human body, with large “one-size-fits-all” safety margins to account for individual variations amongst subjects. These over-conservative margins unnecessarily limit the clinical impact of current and upcoming MRI technologies, which promise to yield substantially clearer images of body structure and physiology.

Aim
In this project we will develop fast computer simulations to determine a patient-specific safety margin at the start of the MRI examination. This will personalize the safety constraints on MRI, enabling current and future generations of MRI systems to operate safely at their full potential.
