Danny van Willigen

  • Synthesis of fluorescent dyes
  • Synthesis of (hybrid) imaging agents
  • Labeling of biomolecules for imaging applications

Danny first did MLO at the Regional Training Center (ROC) van Amsterdam, where he finished in 2007 with a final internship at NUON Power Heat Services BV. After that he studied chemistry at Hogeschool Utrecht and specialized in Research and Development. He performed his final internship at the VU University in the group of prof. dr. Rob Leurs, where he synthesized a range of compounds on behalf of Structure Activity Relationship (SAR) screening efforts for the 5-HT3A  receptor. Ultimately, these screens could lead to novel drugs for the treatment of for example neurologic disorders. In 2012 he started working at the Interventional Molecular Imaging section of the Radiology department of Leiden University Medical Centre   and is currently working on the ERC Starting Grant “Illuminating Nerves” of Fijs van Leeuwen.
