The Gastroenterology and Hepatology research laboratory performs innovative translational research according to the highest international standards. Our current research projects focus on research within the LUMC medical research profile areas Cancer Pathogenesis and Therapy (CPT) and Immunity, Infection and Tolerance (IIT).
The research laboratory is led by prof. dr. Hein Verspaget, and compromises 5 PhD students and 4 technicians supervised by 4 principal investigators. Our laboratory has state-of-the-art equipment to analyse patients-derived samples, perform 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional (organoid) cell culture including live cell imaging. In addition we have developed an advanced panel of syngenic and xenograft mouse models for gastrointestinal tumors and inflammatory disorders. Clinical research is coordinated by 4 dedicated research nurses at the gastroenterology trail office.
