The Department of Medical Microbiology detects and investigates infectious agents. In the interest of patient care we continuously strive to achieve technical improvements in this area. Furthermore, we educate (bio)medical students and physicians specializing in medical microbiology. Our basic and applied scientific research focuses on viruses and bacteria, and their interactions with the host. This contributes to the development of novel diagnostic techniques, vaccines and antimicrobial drugs.
