Prof. dr S.C. Cannegieter (Suzanne)

Area(s) of interest

After training as a medical doctor and acquiring a PhD degree, Suzanne Cannegieter moved to the field of Clinical Epidemiology upon obtaining a MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is currently a professor of Clinical Epidemiology, in particular in the field of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and a staff member at both the department of Clinical Epidemiology and the department of Thrombosis and Haemostasis at the Leiden University Medical Center. This combined appointment allows an ideal combination of the latest epidemiological and statistical techniques with extensive pathophysiological insight. She focuses her research on venous thrombosis, with a particular interest in its aetiology, as well as in establishing optimal prevention and therapy. A few examples of topics include the relation between venous thrombosis and surgery, cardiovascular disease, air travel, cancer, female risk factors, endocrine hormones, infection and risk factors for recurrent thrombosis.
