Willem Lijfering is a clinical epidemiologist whose research focuses on the clinical impact of genetic and other laboratory tests on venous and arterial thrombosis and the pharmacoepidemiology of anticoagulant drugs to the risk of thrombosis and major bleeding. His research includes exploring the hypothesis that venous thrombosis and arterial cardiovascular disease are two different entities or two different sides of the same coin. He is researching whether cardiovascular drugs (like statins or aspirin) should be administered to patients with venous thrombosis. Willem Lijfering is methodological reviewer of The Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and editor of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) online learning system dedicated to haemostasis and thrombosis. He has co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Lijfering is assistant professor at the department.
