Willem Lijfering is an associate professor of clinical epidemiology at the LUMC and medical doctor whose research focuses on the clinical impact of genetic and other laboratory tests on venous and arterial thrombosis. He also studies the pharmacoepidemiology of drugs, including anticoagulant drugs, in big data sets. His research explores the hypothesis that venous thrombosis and arterial cardiovascular disease are two different entities or two different sides of the same coin and what the impact is of several drugs in terms of side effects and efficacy when given to large patient groups in the population. Willem Lijfering is Associate Editor of The Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and has co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers.
