The Department of Pathology is active in both clinical and fundamental research. We aim to unravel disease processes and to translate our knowledge to clinical pathology, particularly in the field of molecular diagnostics.
Our research is typically conducted in association with other LUMC departments and groups, both national and international, and is geared towards being optimally recognizable within the LUMC profile. In addition to conducting our own program, we support research lines in a vast number of other LUMC departments. These contributions can be accessed through the reports and websites of Departments directing such programs, and will not be discussed here.
The Department of Pathology provides students with ample research opportunities within existing research, through traineeships.
Its program focuses on the following themes.
- Immunopathology of vascular and renal diseases, and of organ and cell transplantation (Pathology 1)
- Molecular tumour pathology and tumour genetics (Pathology 2)
