Six main research fields can be distinguished:

  1. Thrombosis and hemostasis. Over the past years, the research into venous thrombosis has been instrumental in the discovery of factor V Leiden, a common genetic prothrombotic abnormality, and several other hitherto unknown risk factors for thrombosis. Read more ...

  3. Renal failure and dialysis. Chronic renal failure is increasingly recognized as an important health problem. While screening and the importance of detecting early stages is still under debate, risk factors for progression of the disease resulting in loss of renal function and the need for dialysis or transplantation warrant further study.   5. Metabolic Syndrome. More and more people are overweight or obese (in The Netherlands, 50 and 11 percent). This is associated with a high incidence of morbidity. Read more ...
