TRUST is short for ‘multimodal effects of Thyroid hormone Replacement for Untreated older adults with Subclinical hypothyroidism; a randomized placebo controlled Trial’;
a study into treatment of subclinical hypothyroidism in older persons.
Subclinical hypothyroidism is a common condition in older persons and a range of adverse outcomes have been described. Earlier research into potential benefits or hazards of treatment however has been conflicting. In collaboration with Glasgow University, Cork University and Universität Bern, the LUMC tries to unravel this mystery.

The goal of the TRUST study is to investigate the (dis-)advantages of thyroid hormone replacement treatment in older adults with subclinical hypothyroidism. TRUST was completed in December 2016.
