- How does home access via the Catalogue work?
1. Home access with an ULCN-account
Employees of the Leiden University or the LUMC are offered the option to access electronic information sources from home, including online journals and electronic catalogues. A ULCN-account is required for this service. Employees of the LUMC who have a contract with the Leiden University already have a ULCN-account. Employees of the LUMC without a Leiden University contract can request a ULCN-account at the Information Desk of the Walaeus Library by registering in the Visitors Management System (gasten management systeem, GMS). You can find the request form in Procedure verzoek tot registratie GMS (Procedure request GMS registration). Additional information regarding the use of the Catalogue using home access can be found here.
Exceptions regarding the home access: A number of journals are only accessible from the computers within the LUMC for financial reasons. Home access using the Leiden University Catalogue is not possible for these journals.
Problems with firewalls/access from other hospitals: Some institutions and private PCs have advanced firewalls that protect the internet connection. In order to facilitate the home access to sources, it may be necessary to open the gates of the firewall. The Catalogue of the Leiden University uses gate 8008, SFX of gate 9003 and the proxy server for the access to external documents (outside the Leiden University) is 2443. These are the minimum number of gates that need to be facilitated for access to documents.
2. External access to LUMC-network using access.lumc.nl
It is possible for LUMC-employees to log onto the LUMC-net from home and use the online Walaeus Library safely. It also facilitates safe use of MS Outlook, H: and I: disks etc. Online access to journals, books and documents (e.g. Web of Science, PubMed and Up-to-date) can also be accessed, including available full text articles. Every employee of the LUMC may use the external access to the LUMC-network (Externe toegang tot LUMC-netwerk). The I&A section of the division can request this access after approval by the supervisor. A manual including a request form can be found on Albinusnet. Please contact the Servicedesk ICT with problems regarding the external access. The Servicedesk can also change the registered mobile telephone number.
3. Home access for institutions within the Education and Training region (Onderwijs en Opleidingen Regio, OOR) of the LUMC (AIOS).
Doctors in training into a medical specialist (AIOS) and their educators who take part in the education and training of the institutions within the Education and Training region (Onderwijs en Opleidingen Regio, OOR) of the LUMC can be granted access to the online Walaeus Library (through the Catalogue of the Leiden University). The form Guest employee affiliated institution within OOR (Gastmedewerker geaffilieerde instelling binnen de OOR) needs to be filled out and sent to the Information desk of the Walaeus Library. The AIOS need to include a copy of an identification document to MVO@lumc.nl or a hardcopy to mw. S.W. Donk or mw. K.L.L. Habets, LUMC, V4-70, Postbus 9600, 2300 RC, Leiden.
