‘Vitality and Ageing’ and ‘Biomedical Sciences’ are top Master’s programmes

Leiden’s Vitality and Ageing Master’s programme has been named the best programme in this year’s Keuzegids Masters, the most important Dutch Master’s Programme Guide. Biomedical Sciences at Leiden University was also given top ranking. Pharmacy rose to second place and there was once again little difference in quality between the Master’s programmes in Medicine.

Students gave the Master’s in Vitality and Ageing the best scores for its practical orientation, feasibility of the study programme and intensive supervision. In these evaluations, V&A is the top full-time university Master’s programme in this category – head and shoulders above its immediate competitors.

Biomedical Sciences

Biomedical Sciences is in first place as the strongest biomedical programme in the Netherlands. Students gave the Leiden University programme the highest scores for its practical orientation, testing and the quality of its teaching staff.


For the Master’s in Pharmacy, it is noted that there has been improvement across the board, especially as regards the feasibility of the study programme. Students evaluated the Pharmacy study programme in Leiden as the best in the country in relation to its practical orientation.


As in 2018, there is relatively little difference in quality between the Master’s programmes in Medicine. All the study programmes in Medicine have very similar scores.
