Dr. Van der Weerd joined the LUMC in 2005 to lead the pre-clinical MRI group. She is currently appointed as associate professor within the departments of Human Genetics and Radiology within the C.J. Gorter Center for high field MRI. She received a PhD in biophysics from Wageningen University in 2002, after which she spent three years at University College London studying in vivo models for ischemic stroke with novel MRI techniques. At LUMC, she continues her research into the development and use of in vivo imaging techniques to study neurological disease progression and monitor therapeutic interventions. Dr. Van der Weerd received numerous grants, among which the prestigious VENI and VIDI personal career development awards.
