About your role
In this multidisciplinary role, you will collaborate with the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, UMC Utrecht, and Amsterdam UMC on groundbreaking research into brain tumors. The project focuses on studying the effect of focused ultrasound (FUS) on opening the blood-brain barrier and improving the delivery of novel therapeutics to the tumor microenvironment. You will work with advanced models, innovative agents such as chemotherapeutic compounds, viral vectors, and antibodies, and make use of non-invasive imaging techniques.
Your core tasks include:
- Performing experiments with focused ultrasound and non-invasive monitoring techniques, including IVIS.
- Working with appropriate models to investigate the effectiveness of various therapeutic approaches.
- Isolating and characterizing cells from the tumor microenvironment.
- Analyzing and interpreting research data in an accurate and systematic manner.
- Presenting and publishing research findings within the scientific community.
About your workplace
The Translational Neuro Oncology laboratory is located in the Department of Cell and Chemical Biology at Leiden University Medical Center, that consists of multidisciplinary research groups and offers a motivating and friendly work environment where seminars and multidisciplinary meetings take place on a regular basis.
About you
You are an enthusiastic and creative researcher who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team. You have strong analytical skills and the ability to translate your ideas into tangible results. You are driven, eager to learn, and ambitious, with the goal of leading your own research group in the future. In addition, you possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and value making science accessible to a broader audience.
Furthermore, you have:
- A completed PhD in medical or biomedical sciences, with a background in neuro-oncology and cell biology.
- Experience or affinity with techniques such as Focused Ultrasound, the use of animal models, and/or knowledge of microglia (a plus).
- Excellent skills in data analysis and scientific reporting.
- Proven experience in publishing research findings and presenting within the scientific community.
Strong command of the English language, both spoken and written.

- As a postdoc, your salary will be between € 3,598 and € 5,669 gross per month (scale 10, CAO UMC). These figures are based on a full-time position.
