Yaima obtained her bachelor in Chemistry at the Chemistry Faculty of the Havana University, Cuba in 2005. She obtained her master degree in Science and Technology of Materials in 2010. She works as an junior researcher at the Ceramic and Metallic Biomaterials Department in the Biomaterials Center of the Havana University. The main objective of her PhD-project is the development of a scaffold based on natural polymers with adequate properties for cartilage tissue engineering.
She received the Havana University Award (2014), the Cuban Academy of Sciences Award in Natural Sciences (2015) and the Cuban Academy of Sciences Award in Biomedical Sciences (2015) based on her work on Controlled delivery systems from biomaterials for bone tissue restoration.
