- Nanomagnetism (SQUID magnetometry)
- Magnetic resonance (MRI, NMR, EPR, muSR)
- Alzheimer's disease
Lucia Bossoni started her VENI project at the Gorter Center (Radiology Dept-LUMC), on the 1st of November 2017. Lucia is a Solid State physicists by training, with a background in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. She dedicated her PhD work to the study of novel iron-based superconducting materials, in Italy (Pavia University).
During her Post-doc at the Leiden Institute of Physics she changed field, specializing in the use of magnetometry and spectroscopy to study iron in the brain. She designed a methodology which provides detailed information about the state of iron in the brain tissue of Alzheimer’s patients. This method is complementary to MRI. She also applied advanced physics technology to study the magnetism of ferritin, the major iron-storage protein in our body.
