We offer a variety of tools, workshops, training sessions, and programs to help leaders further develop their leadership skills. Work-life balance
LUMC considers a healthy work-life balance essential, which is why we offer you the opportunity to work flexibly. Together with your manager, you make agreements about how your hours are distributed throughout the year. For example, if you have a 36-hour workweek, this could mean working 40 hours one week and 32 hours the next.
Working from home
LUMC has a hybrid working policy, allowing employees to work partly from home. You will receive a home working allowance for each day you work from home. The number of days you can work remotely depends on your job category, ranging from 0% to 60%, always in consultation with your manager.
Additional leave
LUMC offers a flexible leave scheme. Based on the collective labor agreement (CAO), a full-time position (36 hours) entitles you to 180 hours of annual leave. Need more time off? You have the option to purchase additional leave. You can also save up leave from various sources to create a better work-life balance. In addition, we offer other types of leave, such as emergency leave and care leave.
Childcare
Do you have children and want to make use of childcare? You can do so at Langhors, LUMC’s own childcare center. You can register with Langhors as early as three months into your pregnancy.
Childcare
If you have children, you may want to make use of childcare. We collaborate with daycare center Langhors, but you are also free to choose another provider.
You can register your child with Partou childcare Langhors from the beginning of your pregnancy. This is advisable, as there may be waiting lists.
Childcare Langhors is for children aged 0 to 4 years. Its operations are managed by Partou. Langhors has a mixed group with a total of 44 childcare places: 24 available on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and 20 on Wednesday and Friday. The center is open 52 weeks a year on all working days. Regular daycare hours are from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM, with extended care available from 7:00 AM if needed.

Childcare center Langhors is located in the Poortgebouw at LUMC:

Childcare allowance
LUMC does not provide a reimbursement for childcare, as this is arranged by law through the Dutch Tax Authority (Belastingdienst). The amount of childcare allowance you receive depends on factors such as your income and the number of contracted working hours of the parent with the fewest working hours. More information on allowances and how to apply can be found on the Belastingdienst website.

UMC collective labor agreement
Employees of LUMC fall under the Collective Labor Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC). We offer very attractive employment conditions. In addition to your monthly salary and an annual holiday allowance of 8%, you will also receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%. You can also count on an excellent commuting allowance and a pension scheme with ABP, in which LUMC covers as much as 70% of the pension contribution. This means your net salary may be higher than you initially expect. Salary scales are established for all positions, with a minimum and maximum amount. Based on your education and work experience, we will agree on your salary level. If your role requires working irregular hours or being on call, additional allowances or compensation apply. For example, we offer an on-call or standby allowance of up to €12.50 gross per hour, and an irregular hours allowance of up to 72% on Sundays and public holidays. You can use the Raet.nl website to make a gross-to-net salary calculation. This will give you an idea of your net salary at LUMC. Make sure to select the sector “UMC-ABP.” If you select “Hospitals,” the calculation will be based on a different collective agreement and will therefore not be accurate.

Smoke-free generation
LUMC believes it is important that children grow up smoke free and that people are not tempted to light a cigarette. We also have a responsibility to set a good example when it comes to healthy behavior, not only for our patients, but also for visitors, colleagues, students and society as a whole. That is why we are committed to a smoke free generation.
“A smoke free LUMC means that smoking is not allowed anywhere on our premises, not even on the sidewalk or at the entrance to the complex. Everyone should be able to enter our buildings in a smoke free environment.”
Since December 2018, the front areas of our campus have been smoke free, and since 2020, the entire LUMC site is completely smoke free. We want our employees, students, patients and visitors to be aware of the risks of smoking and to know where to seek help if they want to quit. As a future or current LUMC colleague, you can take part in the dedicated smoking cessation program offered by Sinefuma. We will do everything we can to support you in quitting smoking.
Will you join us in working towards a smoke free generation?
