The Light Microscopy Facility offers a wide range of advanced microscopy systems for internal and external users. Services

The Light Microscopy Facility is open to both internal and external users, regardless of experience level. We offer access to a broad range of microscopes suitable for diverse sample types. Users can expect hands-on training, technical support during experiments, and access to image analysis software. Our team provides tailored guidance to ensure efficient and high-quality results.

Equipment

We maintain a state-of-the-art microscopy platform with over 20 instruments, covering a wide range of imaging techniques and sample types. Data acquisition can be performed both manually and through automated workflows.

Pricing

We operate under a hybrid funding model, with institutional support and user fees covering operational costs. Our charges are designed to ensure fair access to state-of-the-art flow and light microscopy services while maintaining sustainability.

First time users

New users receive guidance tailored to their experience level. Beginners are supported closely with training and supervision, while experienced users receive concise introductions to specific systems. We provide both online resources and in-person assistance to ensure a smooth onboarding process.

About us

The Light Microscope Facility aims to provide accessible, high-end microscopy solutions to support cutting-edge research. We continuously expand and improve our instrument portfolio to meet evolving scientific demands and diverse sample requirements. Our goal is to enable researchers to obtain high-quality imaging results with expert support.

Part of a research community

There is a strong microscopy research community in the Netherlands. LUMC’s microscopy facility is part of NL-BioImaging AM, the Netherlands Electron Microscopy Infrastructure (NEMI) and the Dutch Society for Microscopy (NVvM). We also act as a Technology Hotel in the Dutch Techcentre for Life Sciences (DTL).
