Services
Histology slide scanner service
For histology slides we offer our slide scanning service. With a capacity of up to 1,600 slides, we can process large batches overnight.
Slides and data are typically ready for collection the next day. Slide scanners generate large, high-resolution overview images of your samples. Only standard slide formats are supported.
Training
Before using microscopes independently, users complete a hands-on training session. We guide you through the setup of the microscope and explain the relevant software and settings.
Training is tailored to your specific application and experience level. We also provide online video tutorials for preparation and as a reference after training.
Assistance
In addition to initial training, we offer support during imaging sessions. Assistance can be requested when booking a time slot.
We help you optimize microscope settings to achieve the best results and are available to troubleshoot any issues that arise during your experiment.
Image analysis
After image acquisition, data often requires processing and analysis. We provide access to dedicated workstations equipped with commonly used image analysis software. These can be accessed both on-site and remotely.
We are also working on integrating AI-based image analysis tools to further support advanced data processing. Part of this is enabled by the NL-BioImaging infrastructure sponsored by NWO National Roadmap for Large-Scale Research Infrastructure (NWO 184.036.012).

Available software includes Imaris, LAS X, ZEN, QuPath, R, and others.
Consultancy
A clear research question is essential for effective imaging. We provide expert advice to help you choose the most suitable microscopy technique and setup.
We offer detailed knowledge of our instruments, including lasers, filters, and objectives, ensuring you get the most out of your experiments.
Courses
We organize two annual microscopy courses.
- One-week PhD microscopy course: covers fundamental principles, sample preparation, different imaging techniques, and basic image analysis.
- Advanced image analysis course: focuses on expanding existing skills, including modern approaches such as AI and deep learning.
Part of a research community
There is a strong microscopy research community in the Netherlands. LUMC’s microscopy facility is part of NL-BioImaging AM, the Netherlands Electron Microscopy Infrastructure (NEMI) and the Dutch Society for Microscopy (NVvM). We also act as a Technology Hotel in the Dutch Techcentre for Life Sciences (DTL).
