Admission to the Strand, Bos, or Stad ward
We are here for an admission
In the case of a planned admission or day admission, you will receive an email describing which ward your child will be admitted to, on which day, and at what time you need to be at the ward.
Preparing for your child's admission
In the ward
The (pediatric) nurse will ask you various questions upon admission to get to know your child's habits. Of course, you can also ask this (pediatric) nurse anything about the stay in the hospital.
She also always asks who the contact person is. With children, this is almost always the parents. Due to your child's privacy, information about your child is only given to you as parents.
During the admission
Parental participation
Naturally, the care and, where possible, the upbringing of your child continue as usual in the hospital. To this end, we adhere to a parent participation policy. We involve parents in the care of their child and give them control over their (admitted) child wherever possible. For example, you can be with your child day and night, and you can always accompany them to examinations or surgery.
Moreover, medical decisions and specialist care for your child are always made in consultation with you.
In the video below, we explain what parental participation means and what you can do to contribute.

WAKZ facilities
The LUMC offers various facilities and services, such as a restaurant and coffee corner, shops, interpreters, Wi-Fi, and a Patient Service Bureau (PSB). There are also psychologists, medical social workers, and spiritual caregivers. Go to: Facilities and services at the LUMC. Discharge
We try to inform parents at least one day in advance of their child's discharge. Occasionally, the doctor decides on the day itself that your child may go home. It is also possible that your child's situation changes unexpectedly in such a way that a planned discharge cannot proceed.
Points for improvement or complaints
The LUMC continuously works on improving the quality of care. The experiences of our patients are indispensable in this process.
