Admitted patient has hantavirus

It has been confirmed that the admitted patient has hantavirus. The patient has been informed and has given permission to share this information.

We provide all the support and care that the patient needs at this moment. We are taking every precaution to do this safely. As always, the LUMC does not provide information about individual patients.

Well prepared

The department where the patient is admitted is prepared to care for patients with severe infectious diseases. During the treatment of a patient with a suspected serious contagious disease at LUMC, all precautionary measures are taken to prevent spread.

In addition to isolation rooms for patients, all protective equipment for our staff is available. Treatment takes place in strict isolation, following the applicable protocols. LUMC has specialised isolation facilities. To ensure we remain well prepared, regular exercises are held to practise the admission of patients with possibly severe diseases.

Visiting LUMC safely

As a patient or visitor to LUMC, you are not at risk of infection. You do not need to take any special measures. You can continue to visit as usual.

More information about hantavirus can be found on the RIVM website.
