About your role

As a research technician, you will perform various laboratory techniques to support ongoing biomedical research projects. You will work with a range of techniques involving cell culture, tissue processing, flow cytometry and microscopy.

You will also support researchers in optimising experiments and ensure that results are recorded accurately. You will handle biological materials carefully and contribute to the quality and progress of the research.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Culturing mammalian cells and preparing biological samples for further analysis.
• Processing tissue samples, including tissue slicing, preparing tissue sections and performing immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining.
• Conducting flow cytometry experiments, including sample preparation, antibody staining, data acquisition and basic data analysis.
• Performing tissue imaging using fluorescence-based and advanced microscopy platforms.
• Supporting the optimisation of experimental protocols, carefully documenting results and collaborating with researchers and laboratory colleagues.

About your workplace

You will work in the Chemical Signalling research group, led by Professor Peter ten Dijke. Our group is internationally recognised as a leading research group in the field of cell signalling, with a particular focus on cancer.

The research group is part of the Department of Cell and Chemical Biology. The department has state-of-the-art infrastructure for conducting high-quality scientific research.

About you

You are a motivated laboratory professional with a strong interest in biomedical research. You conduct experiments methodically and carefully and understand the importance of consistent working methods, appropriate experimental controls and accurate documentation.

You are able to work independently, while also actively collaborating with researchers and colleagues to achieve high-quality research results together.

You also have:

• A completed higher professional education or master’s degree in biology, biomedical sciences, laboratory research or a comparable field.
• Experience with cell culture, tissue processing, tissue slicing and preparing tissue sections.
• Practical experience with tissue staining techniques, such as immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence.
• Experience with fluorescence microscopy, tissue imaging techniques and flow cytometry.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately document activities and results.
• Good communication skills and a good command of English, both spoken and written.

• As a research technician, your salary will be between €3,171 and €4,492 gross per month, based on salary scale 7M of the Collective Labour Agreement for University Medical Centres. These amounts are based on full-time employment.
