At the Interventional Molecular Imaging Laboratory (IMI-Lab), medical imaging, sensor technology, and robotics come together. You will contribute to the development of innovative imaging systems and research platforms for the healthcare technologies of the future. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and clinicians who jointly develop new technologies in the fields of medical imaging, image-guided therapy, and robotics. This role offers the opportunity to build prototypes, work with robotics, and translate innovative concepts into functional research setups. About your role

As a Technician in the field of Robotics and Medical Imaging, you will support research projects focused on novel imaging technologies and advanced research instrumentation. You will be involved in the design, construction, testing, and optimization of experimental setups that combine robotics, medical (imaging) sensors, and automation. Thereby creating significant opportunities for you to tackle technical challenges and implement innovative solutions.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Creation of prototype sensor systems.
  • Integrating sensors in robotic platforms.
  • (Co-)creation of software for system control, data acquisition, and automation.
  • Performing experimental (phantom) studies.
  • Processing and analyzing data from experimental studies..
  • Supporting other team members in their research activities.

About your workplace

You will join the Interventional Molecular Imaging Laboratory (IMI-Lab), a multidisciplinary research group focused on the development of innovative technologies for imaging and image-guided therapy applications. IMI-Lab offers a dynamic environment where scientific curiosity and technological innovation go hand in hand, with practical implementation toward medical applications as a guiding principle. You will collaborate with other researchers: Technicians,  PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, medical doctors, and students. All with diverse, but complementing, backgrounds.

About you

You are technically curious, detail-oriented, and enjoy developing and improving technical systems. You like turning ideas into working prototypes and are comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. You have a practical, hands-on mindset, a ‘can do’ mentality, take initiative and enjoy delivering tangible technical and practical results.

In addition, you bring:

  • A completed Bachelor's degree (HBO or equivalent) in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Interest in working within a dynamic research environment
  • Affinity with systems engineering combining hardware and software
  • A structured approach to work and attention to quality and documentation

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with prototype fabrication (for example 3D printing, CNC) or electronics
  • Experience with programming, for example in Python, MATLAB, Java, or C++ in the context of image processing and/or medical imaging
  • Experience with robotic systems, embedded systems, or microcontrollers
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken

More information

  • As a Robotics and Medical Imaging Technician, your salary will range from a minimum of €3,126 to a maximum of €4,182 gross per month (salary scale 7, Collective Labour Agreement for University Medical Centers). These amounts are based on full-time employment.
