Postdoc Rheumatology/Immunology
You have 6 more days to apply
About your role
This postdoc position focuses on autoreactive B cells in people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). These cells play an important role in SLE, as shown by the success of therapies that specifically target B cells. You will be the first to characterise these cells in lymphoid tissues and organoids, using techniques such as spectral flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, B cell repertoire analysis and functional assays. Your research will explore where B cell activation takes place, which routes are involved and how these cells remain quiescent after therapy. The combination of translational research, innovative techniques and direct relevance to patient care creates a varied and scientifically challenging research environment.
Your main tasks are:
- Studying autoreactive B cells in SLE using advanced immunological techniques.
- Analysing activation mechanisms and signalling pathways based on transcriptomic and functional data.
- Developing experimental strategies to study B cell activation in organoids.
- Sharing research findings through scientific publications and national and international presentations.
About your workplace
Leiden University Medical Center is an academic medical center where patient care, research and education are closely connected. The Department of Rheumatology is a recognised EULAR Centre of Excellence, bringing together care and research for various autoimmune diseases.
At the Laboratory for Experimental Rheumatology, you will join a dynamic research group of around 35 postdocs, PhD candidates and analysts. The SLE research team consists of a rheumatologist, PhD candidates and a postdoc, supervised by dr. Jolien Suurmond, immunologist and assistant professor. The laboratory combines fundamental immunological research with patient-related research to unravel the mechanisms of autoimmune diseases and develop innovative treatment strategies.
This research is also part of a study into CD19 CAR T cell therapy for autoimmune diseases. The project involves close collaboration with several departments within LUMC and Amsterdam UMC.
About you
Collaboration comes naturally to you, especially within fundamental research in B cell immunology. You work with a critical mindset and know how to adapt your experimental approach based on results. Clear communication in English is important in this international research environment.
In addition, you have:
- A completed PhD in immunology.
- Demonstrable interest in autoimmunity.
- Experience with immunological techniques, such as cell culture and (spectral) flow cytometry.
- Affinity with advanced data analysis, such as single-cell RNA sequencing and B cell repertoire analysis.
