Willem-Alexander Children's Hospital

Pediatric Neurology

The Pediatric Neurology specialty at the Willem-Alexander Children's Hospital focuses on problems of the nervous system and muscles. Your child can come here for diagnosis and treatment.

What we do

We specialize in muscle and nerve diseases. We see children with (suspected) muscle or nerve diseases at the Children's Muscle Center WAKZ. In addition, we see children with general pediatric neurological conditions, such as epilepsy, hydrocephalus, and congenital abnormalities.

Appointment and admission

Stad outpatient clinic appointment

We see children with problems of the nervous system or muscles at the Stad outpatient clinic of the WAKZ. During the visit to the outpatient clinic, we explain what is wrong with your child. Sometimes additional tests are needed to gain more clarity. Afterwards, we discuss with you, and where possible also with your child, the available treatment options.

The doctor will tell you what risks a treatment may entail, what the outlook is, and what you can expect from the treatment. For general information, see My child has an appointment at the WAKZ outpatient clinic . Please note: pediatric neurology has its own telephone number and email address (see Contact and location).

Admission to the Bos, Strand, or Stad ward

Sometimes additional examinations are necessary, such as an MRI scan of the brain or a lumbar puncture. If an examination requires general anesthesia, your child may be admitted for one day. Similarly, if medication needs to be administered intravenously, this is done in the day treatment unit. Sometimes a longer admission is required. In that case, your child will be admitted to the Bos or Strand ward at the Willem-Alexander Children's Hospital. For general information, see Admission to the Strand, Bos, or Stad ward.
