Dr. T.J.B. van Groningen

Area(s) of expertise:
Molucular cell biologist, Cancer scientist
Introduction
I have studied biomedical science at the VU of Amsterdam. After my bachelors, I graduated from the master of Neuroscience. Due to my shifting interest towards cancer research, I decided to do a PhD in Neuroblastoma research. During my PhD, I studied the role of cellular states in drug resistance and relapse. My interest in cancer science now currently continues at the department of dermatology, where I am involved in the scientific projects encompassing melanoma research.
Scientific research
We are interested in understanding the various senescent states that occur during the development and treatment of skin cutaneous melanoma. Our ultimate goal is to identify vulnerabilities which will aid in the development of therapies that can eliminate senescent nevus cells/moles or melanoma cells that persist after treatment.
