Introduction
I am a radiologist at the LUMC and head of the breast radiology section. My areas of interest are breast imaging and abdominal and oncological imaging.
I studied medicine at Erasmus University Rotterdam, obtained my PhD at VU University Medical Center on MRI in multiple sclerosis, and trained as a radiologist at Rijnstate Arnhem, VUmc and Medisch Centrum Alkmaar. I then worked for six years as an abdominal radiologist and clinical manager at the UMCG. I have been at the LUMC since 2019.
In my field, imaging is rarely an end point. Almost every scan is part of a larger process, in which a diagnosis has to be confirmed or a treatment is chosen and followed up. Discussing those findings in the multidisciplinary meetings is the part of my work I enjoy most. I also supervise residents and am the fellowship supervisor for abdominal radiology.

Scientific research
My research focuses on breast imaging with photon-counting CT. At the LUMC we are implementing AB-breast CT in clinical practice, the first photon-counting CT developed specifically for the breast in the Netherlands. Together with the manufacturer we are currently developing an in-house biopsy module, which will make biopsy under breast CT guidance possible. A study comparing the accuracy of breast CT with MRI is also ongoing.
My PhD research concerned MRI criteria for the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. I am a co-applicant of the ZonMw efficiency study SERENDIPITY on incidentally discovered adrenal tumours, and was co-supervisor of the PhD thesis of J.B. Hulshoff on patient selection in oesophageal cancer.
