Area(s) of expertise:
Geriatric medicine, Pain medicine, Medication transfer, Medication safety
Introduction
As head of pharmaceutical patient care, I am responsible for supplying, checking, storing and monitoring the medication that is issued for patients in the LUMC. We also support and advise doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers with the entire FPZ team (consisting of approximately 70 employees) with safe and correct prescribing, preparation and administration of medication. This concerns regular medication and research medication. I am also a trainer of the AIOS hospital pharmacy and I have a role within the Master of Pharmacy as a learning path coordinator for Pharmaceutical Policy, I am a mentor to Master of Pharmacy students and I provide education. Nationally, I sit on, among others, the Central Board of Pharmacy, the SIG Geriatrics and the steering group of the Pain Management cluster.
Scientific research
As a researcher, I am interested in the use of Real World Data (RWD) for evaluation of (expensive) drug therapy and I am looking for innovations (E-Health solutions) to optimize pharmaceutical patient care in hospitals, especially from the patient's perspective. This includes studies into optimizing medication verification and use of RWD for the evaluation of oncology drugs. I am also PI on behalf of the LUMC for the national Limoncello study, in which we jointly carry out medication reviews with internal geriatric medicine and the general practitioner/public pharmacist in older patients with polypharmacy who have been urgently admitted to hospital.
