Global health is not only about addressing today's health challenges - it is also about ensuring that tomorrow's innovations reach everyone. By connecting LUMC colleagues working with partners in low- and middle-income countries from the earliest stages of research and innovation, and have them share experiences, data, infrastructures and multidisciplinary projects, LUMC develops solutions that are more robust, more widely applicable and better positioned for equitable implementation, worldwide.

LUMC Global PhD Scholarship Programme

A key initiative of the Hub is the LUMC Global PhD Scholarship Programme, which supports talented early-career researchers working on Global Health challenges. The programme enables PhD candidates to conduct their research jointly at LUMC and at the partner institution, ensuring that projects combine scientific excellence with strong local relevance and are embedded in the local healthcare and research context. By bringing PhD candidates to Leiden while supporting research in their home institutions, the programme fosters mutual learning, strengthens research capacity in both settings, and promotes sustainable international collaboration. Scholarships are awarded exclusively through targeted internal calls among LUMC and its strategic international partners. The programme does not operate an open application process or accept unsolicited external applications. Through multiple funding rounds, the programme has supported a growing network of researchers contributing to innovative Global Health research and lasting global partnerships.
