Talent Development

LUMC has an excellent reputation when it comes to Prevention and Lifestyle expertise and research, both nationally and internationally. To keep our research quality high, we aim to set up a mentor-mentee program and contribute towards developing a tenure track program specifically for the Prevention and Lifestyle theme.

Research performed within our theme has resulted in high scientific output over the past five years. Studies have been published in high-ranking scientific journals, such as BMJ, European Respiratory Journal, Lancet Global Health, Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol, Lancet Public Health, Diabetes Care, and Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. Furthermore, we obtained numerous large research grants. Examples include several Horizon Europe 2020 grants, BENEFIT for all, NWO Perfect fit project, EFRO Kansen voor West II and VoorwaardelijkeToelating Fysiotherapie bij inflammatoire reumatischeaandoeningen (Conditional Admission Physiotherapy in inflammatory rheumatic diseases).

In addition, approximately 100 Ph.D. students perform their thesis on a topic related to this theme. However, to keep research quality high, it’s essential to keep talented LUMC researchers within the organization and attract new talent from outside LUMC.

Projects

Project 1: Mentor-mentee program at LUMC

We aim to identify and guide talented researchers through a mentor-mentee program, in which we match senior researchers with junior researchers. All junior researchers who are interested in this program are invited to participate. Moreover, we will form a team of experienced and motivated mentors. The purpose of this program is to identify researchers that can flow into a tenure track program. We will work closely with the Young Faculty Network (YFN) on this project.

Project 2: Talent scouting from outside LUMC

We aim to involve our theme board in identifying talent from outside LUMC and motivating them to apply for grants (for example, the Gisela Thier Fellowship) and to join our theme. We will also scout talented researchers through our regular meetings (see our subtheme Research).
