Route description public transport

The LUMC is located within walking distance of the rear side of Leiden Central Station. A number of buses stop next to the LUMC, at the Bargelaan stop (rear side of the station). All buses stop at the bus station in front of the station.

Route desciption for motorists

Driving from Rotterdam (A13, A4):

Take the A13 and then the A4 toward Amsterdam until you reach Exit 6a (Zouterwoude-Rijndijk, Leiden-Oost). Once you’ve cleared the exit, turn left. Continue straight ahead and follow the sign that reads ‘Station Leiden’ and then the signs that read ‘H-Ziekenhuizen’.

Driving from Utrecht (A12, N11):

Take the A12 until you reach the Leiden exit 9N11) at Bodegraven. When you reach the end of the N11, turn right. Then follow the signs that read ‘H-Ziekenhuizen’.

Driving from The Hague (N44, A44):

Take the N44 (later the A44) from The Hague until you reach Exit 8 (Leiden, Noordwijk, Katwijk) and turn right once you've cleared the exit. Then follow the signs that read ‘H-Ziekenhuizen’.

Driving from Amsterdam (A4, A44);

Take the A4 and then the A44 towards Leiden-West. Follow the A44 until you reach Exit 8 (Leiden, Noordwijk, Katwijk, N206). Once you've cleared the exit, turn left under the viaduct. Then follow the signs that read ‘H-Ziekenhuizen’.

Parking

Taking your car to visit the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC)? You can park in the LUMC's parking garage. In addition, there are other parking facilities where you can park your car in exchange for paying a fee. If you are coming to the LUMC on an urgent basis, then you can park your car for a short period of time at an emergency parking lot near the Emergency Room (ER). Furthermore, there are handicapped parking spaces, charging poles for electric cars and a storage facility for bicycles.

Visit main building

The main building of the LUMC (building 1) houses the outpatient clinics, the nursing wards and 5 lecture halls. In addition, there is a restaurant, a coffee corner, shops and other facilities you can use.

Route inside the LUMC (main building)

Inside the LUMC, you will find information signs with destinations and accompanying route numbers.

In the central hall of the main building, there is an information desk (open: 07.30 – 17.30). Outside these operating hours, you can direct your questions to the security window. The employees working at the information desk are always happy to help you find your way around the LUMC. You can also come here if you require a patient escort to bring you to the right location. This service is available Monday to Friday from 8.00 to 16.00.

Objects found or recovered

Have you lost or misplaced something on or near the LUMC grounds? We keep all objects found or recovered in a public location. This way, it will be easy for their owners to find them again. Check out the objects found in and around the LUMC via iLost.

How does it work?

• Is your lost item on the list on iLost? React immediately using the “claim item” button.
• You will be asked to answer a number of security questions so we know that the found object will be returned to its rightful owner.
• You can choose between picking up the object, for which there is no charge, or having it sent on to your home, for which you will be required to pay a fee.

Documents found, such as identity cards, passports or driving licenses, are handed over to the Municipality of Leiden. For this, we direct you to verlorenofgevonden.nl. Illegal goods (including weapons, ammunition and narcotics) are immediately surrendered to the police.

Storage period

We do not keep objects found for an undetermined period of time. Goods up to a value of €450 that are not claimed within 3 months are either destroyed or donated to a good cause. Found objects with a value exceeding this are kept for a maximum period of 1 year.

Video and audio recordings in the LUMC

The LUMC enjoys being portrayed in a good light. Video and audio recordings made in and around the LUMC are subject to specific rules. We want to guarantee the privacy of our patients, visitors and employees. You also require permission to make films, photographs or audio recordings in and around the LUMC.

Recordings made without permission

Are you a photographer or film crew making recordings without the LUMC's permission or accompaniment? If so, you will be addressed by security personnel and possibly asked to leave the building/grounds.

Employees

To make a video or audio recording material for another purpose, you must arrange this with the appropriate LUMC employee. This could be for educational purposes, private use (anniversaries, farewells) or publications.

General video or audio recordings

Recordings made using drones

The area within 1200 meters of the grounds constitutes a no-fly zone for drones. This is because the LUMC has its own helicopter platform. Flying within a radius of 1200 meters is only allowed in cases where the LUMC has given its permission. You can find more information about this on the central government's webpage.

To make recordings using drones, you must submit a timely application to the LUMC. This can be done during office hours via bhv_oto@lumc.nl and outside of office hours via beveiliging@lumc.nl.
