The dermatology department (skin diseases) is engaged in research and treatment of patients with skin diseases.
The department also offers you the best possible care in the field of skin cancer. The skin cancer center LUMC specializes in this.
Within the dermatology department, the LUMC has a skin cancer center with consultation hours for patients with a form of skin cancer:
- Skin lymphoma
- Melanoma, hereditary melanoma
- Squamous cell carcinoma, skin tumors after organ transplantation
- Basal cell carcinoma, Mohs surgery
The LUMC is a top reference center for the groups of skin cancer. This means that highly specialized care is provided.

In addition to the polyclinic for general dermatology, there are special consultation hours for complaints such as eczema, psoriasis, allergology (hypersensitivity reactions), autoimmune skin diseases, blister diseases and biologicals.

Education is an important part of the activities of the skin diseases department of the LUMC. In this way, the department contributes to high-quality care for people with skin diseases in the future. The skin diseases department is involved in, among other things, education for the study of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, in-service training for medical professionals and training for doctor's assistants.
Training
The skin cancer research program of the Department of Dermatology includes four main lines of research:
- Cutaneous Lymphoma
- Familial melanoma
- Skin carcinoma, particularly in organ-transplant patients
- Disease Skin models
These have in common a combination of basic, translational and clinical research, coordination by dermatologists and scientists and patient groups for which the Dept. of Dermatology serves as a tertiary referral centre. The central theme within all four lines of research is the molecular characterization of the subsequent stages of tumour progression. Methods employed include microarray technology and proteomics, (molecular) epidemiological studies to identify relevant risk factors, transgenic mouse models, cell cultures and cultured human skin equivalents. The ultimate goal is to identify and utilize new diagnostic and prognostic markers and to identify new targets for therapeutic or preventive intervention.
