Pre-Admission Consultation
Before your admission, a consultation usually takes place. This may be a phone call about a week before your admission, or an in-person conversation on the day of your admission at the hospital. During this consultation, we will discuss what’s important and what you can expect from your (day) admission. You are welcome to ask any questions you may have. It’s helpful to think of your questions in advance and write them down so you don’t forget.
Are you following a special diet before admission? Please mention this during the consultation. We can then involve a dietitian in your care if needed.
Patients aged 70 and over
Are you 70 years or older? During the pre-admission consultation with the nurse, we will ask additional questions about your health. For example, if you have physical limitations, it’s important for us to know. Please also let us know if you require extra support during your day treatment or hospital stay. We will then explore the options and provide care tailored to your needs.
Transportation
It’s a good idea to think ahead about how you will get home after your admission. Upon discharge from the nursing ward, you may not feel fully fit yet. Especially if you’ve had full anesthesia, your reaction time may be reduced. For this reason, we strongly advise against going home alone or driving yourself. Please arrange your transportation home in advance.
Children
LUMC provides extra care and attention for children. Young patients are admitted to one of the specialized wards of the Willem Alexander Children's Hospital (WAKZ). These wards are fully equipped to meet the needs of children, offering facilities such as toys and educational support.
Care after your stay: Transfer Office
After your discharge, you may still need support or care. LUMC’s Transfer Office is here to help. During your stay, one of our transfer nurses will discuss your needs and options with you to ensure a smooth transition.
Safe stay at the LUMC
Your safety is very important to us. Our staff works hard every day to ensure a safe environment - but we can’t do it alone.
