prof. dr. J.F. (Jaap) Hamming

Introduction
I got my MD at the University of Leiden in 1987. I was trained in Surgery from 1988 to 1994 in Rotterdam in the Erasmus MC. In 1994 I was appointed as surgeon in the Teaching Hospital St Elizabeth Hospital in Tilburg with as focus areas Vascular Surgery, Endocrine Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery. I was also closely involved in Surgical Training and became Program Director in 2003. I held the position of Secretary in the Board of the Association for Surgeons of the Netherlands. In 2004 I was appointed as Professor of Vascular Surgery, head of the Department of Vascular Surgery and Program Director of Surgical Training in the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). I am also responsible for the Skillslab of Surgical Disciplines in the LUMC. Between 2008 and 2013 I was also Program Director of Training in Emergency Medicine in the LUMC. Prof. Hamming is currently President of Concilium Chirurgicum (Council and Board of Surgical Training in The Netherlands) and member of the Executive-, Board of the Dutch Association for Vascular Surgery.
Scientific research
I got my PhD in 1988 also at the University of Leiden on the thesis: "Differentiated Thyroid Cancer: Current Considerations on Diagnosis and Surgical Treatment" (promoter Prof. Dr. C. H. J. van de Velde).
