Introduction
My name is Melanie and I work as a Physician Assistant in the Department of Clinical Genetics. After completing my degrees in Biomedical Sciences (foundation) and Educational Sciences (bachelor's and master's), I completed my Physician Assistant training in 2021. I have been working at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) since 2023. Here, I see patients who have questions about hereditary cancer in themselves or in their families. I also occasionally teach and perform triage.
What is a Physician Assistant?
A PA is a medical care professional with a higher professional education (HBO) master's degree who independently and under their own responsibility provides medical care to patients within a medical specialty. The PA does this in close collaboration with, among others, medical specialists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and paramedics.
