Clinical Geneticist

Dr. M. Kriek

Introduction
I have been working in the Clinical Genetics department at the LUMC since September 2000. After completing my PhD and training, I started working as a staff physician in the department. At the outpatient clinic, I primarily see individuals with a (possible) genetic cause of muscle disorders, movement disorders, and adults with hearing loss. In addition, I also, along with several colleagues in the department, support pregnant women and their partners who have been diagnosed with an incidental finding by the NIPT. To optimally organize care around the aforementioned areas of expertise, we periodically consult with medical specialists from other LUMC departments (multidisciplinary consultations). Outside of the Clinical Genetics outpatient clinic, I am involved in various policy matters within our field through my role as board member of the Clinical Genetics Association and as secretary of the Ethics and Law Working Group. Finally, within the LUMC, I am closely involved with the Incidental Findings Committee of the Clinical Genetics department.
