Introduction
Karin van Spaendonck-Zwarts is a clinical geneticist and currently head of the Clinical Genetics Outpatient Clinic. Within her department, a team of more than forty professionals works together to provide patients and their families with the best possible genetic care for (suspected) genetic disorders. Close collaboration with other medical specialists and laboratory specialists is essential.
After studying Medicine and Medical Biology, she completed her training as a clinical geneticist in 2008. Since then, she has gained broad experience in various sub-areas of genetics and developed specific expertise in cardiovascular genetics.
Her scientific research focuses on further unraveling the genetic causes of heart muscle diseases and mapping the risks for family members, with the ultimate goal of preventing and more targeted treatment of these conditions.
