About your role
You supervise and initiate research activities focused on the development of antisense oligonucleotides for individual treatment. To this end, you work closely together with the Department of Clinical Genetics to identify patients with suitable mutations and to discuss possible treatment options. You bridge the gap between the laboratory and the clinic and contribute to the implementation of personalized therapies. You also write grant applications, publish research results and present them at international conferences.
Your core tasks are:
• Supervising and initiating research activities for the DCRT.
• Maintaining contact with the Department of Clinical Genetics.
• Developing personalized antisense oligonucleotides.
• Coordinating processes related to the clinical implementation of personalized treatments.
• Writing grant applications and scientific publications.
About your workplace
The Department of Human Genetics is a broadly oriented research department headed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Silvère van der Maarel. Research here focuses on genetic and epigenetic aspects of monogenic, multifactorial and acquired diseases, and on their translation into clinical applications. The department consists of 22 research groups, organized into four overarching research lines. There are currently around 220 national and international staff members, ranging from professors and students to research technician and researchers in training.
The DCRT at LUMC is coordinated by two PI’s: Prof. Dr. Willeke van Roon-Mom and Prof. Dr. Annemieke Aartsma-Rus. Furthermore, the group consists of a research technician, a project manager, a bioinformatician and four PhD students. More information can be found on our website.
About you
You are an independent and motivated researcher who works accurately and combines strong analytical skills with good organizational qualities. Thanks to your clear oral and written communication, you are able to convey your results convincingly.
In addition, you have:
• A PhD or an equivalent degree in molecular biology.
• Experience with cell culture and oligonucleotides.
• Preferably experience with neuronal iPSC cultures.
• A strong affinity with medical genetics.

- As a postdoc, your salary will be between €3,598 and €5,669 gross per month (scale 10, CAO UMC). These figures are based on a full-time position.
