About your role
In this PhD position, you will focus on the clinical application of a newly developed cone-beam CT scanner for the eye. You will work closely with clinicians and researchers to determine the diagnostic value of this imaging technique and investigate how this technology can contribute to more accurate proton therapy for the eye. As part of the multidisciplinary CAPTOR project, you will serve as the bridge between technological innovation and clinical implementation.
Your core tasks include:
- Scanning patients using the new cone-beam CT scanner.
- Evaluating the diagnostic value of the images in collaboration with ophthalmologists and radiologists.
- Investigating how the images can contribute to more accurate proton therapy planning, together with radiation oncologists at LUMC and HollandPTC.
- Collaborating with researchers and healthcare professionals to ensure successful clinical implementation of the technology.
You will be part of an ambitious project where technological innovation and patient care go hand in hand, offering you the opportunity to make a direct contribution to improving ophthalmic treatments.
About your workplace
LUMC is an academic hospital where innovation and patient care go hand in hand. As a PhD candidate, you will work within the C.J. Within the MReye group, you will specifically focus on the eye while also collaborating with the ophthalmology and radiotherapy departments within the Leiden Ocular Tumor Center. This environment allows you to quickly translate technological innovations into clinical practice and offers a unique opportunity for both scientific and clinical development.
About you
You possess excellent communication skills and a strong eye for detail. You demonstrate independence and enthusiasm when working on collaborative projects and can communicate effectively with both academic and industrial partners. In addition, you have strong organizational skills and the flexibility to adapt to a dynamic research environment. You are results-oriented and motivated to develop and evaluate new technologies. Thanks to your fluent command of both Dutch and English, you can easily switch between patient interactions and international collaboration.
You also have:
- A completed master’s degree in Clinical Technology, Medicine, or a related field.
- Affinity with evaluating new technologies in a clinical context.
- Experience programming in a language such as Python; experience with medical imaging and/or radiotherapy is a plus.
