About your role
You will join the Center for Infectious Diseases (LUCID) at LUMC as a physician-researcher. Your work will focus on designing and conducting clinical studies aimed at developing vaccines. A key component of these studies is the use of Controlled Human Infection Models (CHIMs), where healthy volunteers are deliberately exposed to pathogens in a controlled setting. This approach provides valuable insights into the progression, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases. You will write study protocols, recruit participants, collect data, and take biological samples. You will also serve as a bridge between clinical trials and immunological research, working within multidisciplinary research teams to translate results into scientific publications.
Your top tasks:
- Writing protocols for clinical studies.
- Recruiting and guiding volunteers.
- Collecting data and taking biological samples.
- Coordinating tasks within the clinical study.
- Developing research findings into scientific articles.
- Supporting colleagues in the execution of other studies involving healthy volunteers.
About your workplace
You will work within LUCID’s clinical research group, in close collaboration with the immunology team. Both teams have a strong translational research focus and include several (international) PhD candidates with backgrounds in medicine, biomedical sciences, and chemistry, as well as research analysts and bachelor’s and master’s students. The groups collaborate intensively with various departments within and beyond LUMC.
About you
You are curious, enthusiastic, and enjoy working as part of a team. You thrive in a dynamic environment where quick thinking and adaptability are essential. You take initiative, work independently, but also know when to reach out and collaborate. You are eager to learn and view research as a way to contribute to better healthcare.
In addition, you have:
- A completed medical degree (basic physician qualification)
- A strong interest in scientific research and infectious diseases
- Preferably clinical experience (not required)
