Lissy de Ridder was appointed professor and department head of Pediatrics as of August 1. With connection and enthusiasm, she and her team build future-proof care, optimal talent support and innovative research. In this, the child is always central.

Lissy de Ridder

Driven by health, starts where it matters most: the children. In everything Lissy does, they come first. As a connector and committed leader, she aims to shape sustainable paediatric care at the LUMC, together with the entire paediatrics team.

Paediatrics is a key part of an academic hospital and requires an integrated approach to care, research and education. Lissy: “In patient care, my ambition is to further develop LUMC’s paediatric highlights, such as paediatric cardiac care, stem cell transplantation, and neonatology. These areas are embedded in a network of healthcare professionals and organisations, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally). Through scientific research, we contribute to continuous improvement of care. By leading in care and research, we also stimulate knowledge and expertise, which is making us attractive to emerging talent.”

Curriculum vitae

Over the past twenty years, Lissy has worked as a paediatrician specialising in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. She provided clinical care to children from premature infants to teenagers, across all paediatric departments. Her focus was on treating children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

At Erasmus MC, Lissy developed academic leadership, secured funding, built a leading paediatric IBD research group, led international studies, and contributed to (inter)national guidelines.

For the past six years, she has combined her hospital work with board work at the Dutch Paediatric Association (NVK), serving as chair for the last two years.
