Before you come to the LUMC

Preparing for your visit

You can come to receive various treatments in the Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (Leiden University Medical Center - LUMC). These could consist of minor procedures performed on an outpatient basis or (keyhole) surgery during a sojourn in the nursing ward. Make sure you are well prepared. Read all practical information and tips.

Outpatient clinic appointment

We recommend preparing well for your visit to the outpatient clinic. During your first appointment, the doctor will usually ask you some questions about your symptoms and may perform a brief physical examination. If you have multiple appointments, we will do our best to schedule them on the same day.

Admission to a nursing ward

You will stay in a nursing ward at the LUMC after, for example, an operation or treatment. Here, you will receive less intensive care. What should you bring with you for a short or longer stay, and what will your day look like? And what should you take into account after a stay in the nursing ward?

Preparing for surgery

Are you scheduled for surgery at the LUMC soon? Beforehand, you will have a consultation about the course of the surgery, medication, and appropriate anesthesia. Read what else you can expect during surgery at the LUMC and how to prepare yourself.

Find your department

The LUMC offers a wide range of outpatient clinics, specialist centers, and more. You have come to the right place for the best possible care. Read more about the department where you will be receiving treatment to prepare yourself for your visit, so that you know exactly what to expect.
