Cardiologist, Professor

Prof. Dr. K. (Katja) Zeppenfeld

Introduction
I am a cardiologist and have been a professor of clinical electrophysiology since 2012. After completing my medical studies and doctoral research in Germany, I specialized in interventional cardiology and electrophysiology in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Since 2002, I have been working at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) in the Netherlands.
I closely collaborate with an international network of researchers and have spent research periods in Boston and Aarhus. Since 2011, I have also held various leadership positions within the European Heart Rhythm Association and the European Society of Cardiology.
Scientific research
My academic chair focuses on clinical electrophysiology, with particular emphasis on the investigation and treatment of complex ventricular arrhythmias and rhythm disorders in patients with congenital heart defects. What drives me every day is the desire to better understand the underlying mechanisms and origins of these disorders, to translate this knowledge directly into clinical practice, and to pass it on to the next generation of clinical electrophysiologists.
