Introduction
I have been working as a neurologist at LUMC since 2023. After studying medicine at the LUMC, I received my PhD in 2018 on research into the heredity (genetics) of migraine, in particular rare monogenic forms of migraine. In addition to my work as a general neurologist, I work at the Leiden Headache Center at the LUMC, with specific expertise in hemiplegic migraine and rare aura symptoms, and the interface between migraine and epilepsy.
As a post-doctoral researcher, I am also affiliated with the LUMC Health Campus The Hague, with the goal of improving headache care outside the hospital in collaboration with general practitioners and experts in population health. In addition, I am involved in the care and research of Cerebral Hereditary Angiopathies (CHA) with a focus on RVCL-S and CADASIL in collaboration with the Departments of Clinical genetics, Neuroradiology, Human genetics, and Neuropathology.

Scientific research
My scientific research mainly focuses on migraine, with a specific focus on predicting migraine attacks and (lifestyle) trigger factors. I am also involved in research into new drug treatments for migraine. In addition, I participate in multidisciplinary research into the hereditary disease RVCL-S. These lines of research are linked to the Neuroscience theme.
Through the Sector Plan (Ministry of OCW), I have been appointed as a postdoctoral researcher, for which I am also affiliated with the Health Campus The Hague and the Prevention & Lifestyle theme. My research focuses on optimizing headache care by connecting primary care with secondary and tertiary care through innovative forms of healthcare and E-health.
Ongoing research:
- Trigger study
- Migraine@home study
- ZonMw Nationaal Plan Hoofdzaken - Optimalisatie digitaal hoofdpijndagboek (Dutch only)
- Research on RVCL-S
