The training is based on and recognized by the Netherlands Society for Medical Microbiology, lasts 2 years, and can be followed by registered Medical Microbiological Researchers (MMO). Prof. Kroes, together with Prof. Snijder, serves as trainer for the SMBWO-recognized training program for MMO. This program is open to all PhD candidates and researchers within the field of medical microbiology.

The professional profile of an MMM consists of performing, coordinating, and implementing molecular diagnostic and molecular epidemiological research in the broadest sense of medical microbiology.
