Assistant professor

Dr. Y.F.M. (Yolande) Ramos

Area(s) of expertise:
Molecular cell biology, Molecular epidemiology
Introduction
I am an Assistant Professor at the LUMC, Department of biomedical data sciences. Here I guide multiple PhDs and interns within the OA research group (Prof. Meulenbelt).
Before working at the LUMC I studied medical biology at the VU, Amsterdam, followed by a year research in Boston at the Harvard Medical School. During my time at the LUMC I specialized in molecular cell biology and molecular epidemiology to perform analyses of large datasets which I use to perform my research. In addition, I am involved in teaching for which I obtained the ‘basic qualification teaching’ (BKO).
Scientific research
As an Assistant Professor at the LUMC, Department of biomedical data sciences, my main research interest is to determine pathophysiology underlying development of osteoarthritis and possibilities for regenerative treatments, with focus on osteoarthritis pain. I perform my studies based on molecular analyses of patient material (DNA, RNA, protein). In addition, I developed in vitro models using stem cell and Organ-on-Chip technology to characterize identified molecular determinants of disease. As such, my research is linked to the following ‘themes for innovation’ within the LUMC: Regenerative Medicine of tissues and organs, Lifecourse, Medical Genomics, and NeuroScience. For this I receive financial support among others from ReumaNederland, ZonMW, and NWO.
