Area(s) of expertise:
Biomedical statistics
Introduction
I currently coordinate a number of course both within and outside the LUMC. These include “Clinical Research in Practice” (fourth year of Biomedical sciences education) and an AIO course on regression analysis for biomedical researchers. In addition I coordinate a course on Bayesian Statistics in the Statistical Sciences Master (collaboration of Leiden Univ, Wageningen Univ. and the LUMC). I am a panel member on the ethics review panel (Medical Ethical Committee) which reviews novel biomedical research proposals. In addition I provide general consultancy advice of design and analysis of research studies for biomedical researchers.
Scientific research
My current research interests are in the area of prediction with (patient) record which contain missing data. (incomplete patient observation). A second line of research is in the design and application of methods which can be used for (automated) patient monitoring. Development of such methods has become necessary to handle the new complex data structures which are becoming available due to automated methods of recording information on patients, such as through wearables or other digital devices e.g. The focus is often on cardiovascular application.
