About the work
Diana Scherer (1971) was inspired by her own experience as a young mother for this photo series. Scherer uses the collage technique to visualize a certain distance between mother and child. The mother does not hold the baby in her arms and the baby is much too big in comparison.
The composition depicts the overwhelming presence of the baby and the contradictory feelings that motherhood can bring. The work makes room for a different, less rosy view of motherhood.
