Researchers from the LUMC have developed a new method to keep donor kidneys alive outside the body for longer. The new method, published in Nature Communications, offers possibilities to refurbish rejected donor kidneys outside the body in the future and thus make them suitable for transplantation. The research can therefore contribute to increasing the donor pool and the treatment of more patients with severe kidney failure.
