The Virus and Stem Cell Biology Laboratory has dedicated laboratories for culturing primary cells, production and maintenance of cell lines, and handling of various types of viral vectors (lentivirus, adenovirus, reovirus, AAV) up to biosafety level II (ML-II). Available are laboratories for DNA, RNA and protein analyses, biochemical, histological, and immunological assays, flow cytometry and light microscopy The group operates the ‘LUMC viral-vector facility’, which produces viral vectors for use by LUMC researchers. This facility provides lentivirus vectors for preclinical research within the LUMC. The facility also handles requests for clones of our 175.000-clone lentivirus-based short-hairpin library. The clones target each of 17.500 human and 16.000 mouse genes.. In addition, the Leiden University Medical Center LUMC has a new animal facility, which allows handling of animals up to biosafety level III (DM-III). Also at our disposal are state-of-the-art facilities for in vivo imaging, intravital microscopy, confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, as well as genomics, and proteomics research.
