Roeland Veenendaal, MD, PhD has been a member of the department since 1990 and is Chief of Endoscopy and acting head of specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He trained in both Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at the LUMC and completed his thesis entitled “Immunological and Serolodiagnostic aspects of Helicobacter pylori infection” in 1994. His main clinical focus is interventional endoscopy, particularly ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound and enteral stent placement. He also has specialist clinical interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Coeliac Disease and Liver Transplantation.
Alongside his responsibilities as trainer for specialist trainees in Gastroenterology, he is coordinator of the education block “Abdomen” for third year medical students. His research interests lie mainly in the field of IBD, Celiac disease, and endoscopy.
